A 2-year-old boy from Florida was found dead on Tuesday afternoon after his sister left him in a hot SUV several hours while she worked at a nearby daycare.
Jacob Manchego was found unresponsive by his sister, Fiorella Vanessa Silva-Tello, 21, when she came back to check on him.
Silva-Tello left the boy in the car while she worked at the Best Friends for Kidz daycare center at 9:30 am.
According to authorities, she left the boy locked in the Chevy Equinox until around 2:30 pm when she found him dead.
“I see the lady running from the car with the baby’s limp, look like she was trying to get some help for the baby,” witness King Bibbs told ABC affiliate WFTS-TV.
Jacob was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.
Silva-Tello has been cooperative with detectives and charges have not been filed as of yet.
The incident is currently being investigated by the medical examiner’s office and the state attorney’s office.
The daycare that Silva-Tello works at is standing by her and refuses to believe that she would have intentionally tried to kill her brother.
“Today, a sweet little boy passed away. He had a remarkable laugh, he was full of energy and he loved to give hugs,” the statement said. “His name was Jacob and he was two years old. Jacob died in a vehicle where he was forgotten in. From what we know, the cause was heat exhaustion.”
