In their ongoing attempt to delegitimize President-elect Donald Trump’s presidency, Democrats in Congress are reportedly considering challenging Trump’s electoral victory.
Reps. Ed Perlmutter of Colorado, Bobby Scott of Virginia and Jamie Raskin of Maryland have indicated that they mayput forth a formal challenge Friday when Congress meets to certify the Electoral College count, Politico reported.
Members do have the right to lodge protests, but they’ll need the backing of at least one senator to make an impact. The Hill reported that as of Thursday morning, no senator has come forward to back their efforts.
A challenge wouldn’t likely change anything, especially with Republicans controlling Congress. However, it would be another way Democrats challenge Trump’s win, and prolong the certification process by a few hours.
“This is not about trying to stop Donald Trump from becoming President,” Perlmutter said, according to Politico.
“This is about the fact that our liberty, freedom and democracy were compromised by Russia’s intrusion into America’s election. We cannot allow a foreign nation to ever influence our elections because it harms our liberty, freedom and independence. This is bigger than just one election, and for the sake of our democracy, we must remain vigilant,” he said.
Unite for America is one of the groups urging lawmakers to challenge the Electoral College vote. The group also attempted to persuade electors to turn on Trump when they voted on Dec. 19. This latest plan looks to be equally successful.
It seems as though Democrats never tire of the many excuses they’ve given for former Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s loss. What they don’t seem to understand is how weary Americans have become of them bemoaning the fact that Trump won.
It’s time to move on, and everybody seems to know this except Democrats who cannot accept their own failures.
