Daily News reports:
Authorities have apprehended a South Carolina man who they suspect committed the merciless act of setting a puppy on fire in a church parking lot.
Despite being rushed to a veterinarian, the 10-week-old pit bull would not survive its third-degree burns it received outside of Grace United Methodist church in Columbia, CBS News reports.
“Eventually, the fire department got there. I got over there to see the dog. It was burnt almost everywhere, part of the collar was melted onto the dog and it was barely breathing,” an anonymous witness told WIS TV.
The suspect, Hykeem Golson, had fled before police and firefighters arrived to the location of the unimaginable crime Saturday night. It’s believed that the 21-year-old doused the puppy with a type of fuel before setting it ablaze.
After setting the fire, Golson began to approach the witness, who was out walking his dogs. Out of fear for the safety of his pets, the witness said he took off then called 911 to report the sadistic scene.
A $2,000 reward was quickly set up for information leading to the arrest.
