Daily Mail reports:
An attack on a 15-year-old girl by a group of teenagers was filmed and posted online in a video viewed over 51,000 times – and now the five juvenile suspects have been charged.
They are all students of Moore High School in Kentucky and have been charged with assault, disorderly conduct, menacing and harassment.
The assault, on schoolgirl Taylor Gravel, took place in May near Highview Park in Louisville – just a few minutes away from a police station.
Video of the incident, filmed by one of the bullying gang, shows her being harassed and followed by a group of at least five girls and boys – one of whom appears to be wielding a bat.
As they walk along they torment her and then two of the girls are shown launching into an assault, pulling Gravel’s hair and hitting her.
Then one of the boys joins in and rains punches down on her before being pulled away by his friend who can be heard shouting ‘what the f*** are you doing man?’
Gravel told WDRB how she’d tried to walk away: ‘They were all behind me, and there was so many of them, and I was scared to turn around and do anything because I didn’t want every single person jumping in on me.’
She added: ‘The girl with the bat, her best friend, yanked my hair and that’s when the other girl jumped in. I fell onto the girl that yanked my hair, and then that’s when the guy jumped in and started hitting me too.’
She explained that the trigger for the assault appeared to be the fact that she said ‘hi’ to a boy training in Highview Park.
The fight broke up after passer-by Joe Whelan threatened to call the police and his dog barked at the teens.
Gravel said that she had seen her assailants around school but didn’t know them.
Her grandmother, Leslie Burton, described the attack as ‘shocking’, adding that it was ‘painful to see what she went through… like it was something done for sport’.
Action by the authorities over the assault began after Burton shared the clip on her Facebook page and asked if anyone knew who the suspects were.
By that point the video had gone viral.
They were eventually identified and questioned by police.
Taylor’s suspected attackers are due in court next month, according to WDRB.
Louisville Police told MailOnline: ‘This incident happened in May of this year, which was last school year. Five teens were charged with assault, menacing and several other charges.’
