Daily Mail reports:
An incredibly violent fight at a Maryland high school has left three students hospitalized.
Shocking footage shows the brawl at Capitol Heights’ Central High School, with students punching each other, hurling one another to the ground and screaming while adults try to stop them.
The fight broke out Friday when a group of African-American students attacked a group of Hispanic students, a school district spokesperson told Fox 5 . The school said the incident may have been racially motivated.
No one was arrested after the fight but the aggressors are believed to have been expelled. Three students were taken to the hospital and have since been released.
A father told the network he kept his daughter out of school on Monday even though she wasn’t involved in the brawl, because he feared for her safety. It was unclear whether additional security would be provided at the school following the incident.
County police said the school’s resource officer called for backup when the fight broke out.
The principal has met with the parents of all involved and is now working with the school district’s diversity officer to address safety concerns and encourage students to ‘celebrate cultural differences’, a spokesman told Fox 5.
The students involved in the fight came to a special assembly aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
They have been punished as per the school’s guidelines, district officials said. Two students told Fox 5 that most of the aggressors had been expelled.
These students said they don’t believe the fight started because of race and don’t feel that there is a racial divide at the school.
