Okay, I gotta ask – what’s a Tom Ford when he’s at home? I mean, I get that he’s this big-deal-fashion-designer. But as I’ve mentioned before, that means jack-squat to me. I’m not a fashionista and I don’t follow the fashion scene. I leave that realm to the other Chicks.
But him snubbing Melania Trump is a huge story.
According to this, fashion designer Tom Ford told the harpies on The View that he’s declined to dress Melania Trump in the past and will probably continue to do so, even after she becomes FLOTUS. His reasoning is that she isn’t “the right fit” for his brand. It’s worth noting that he did dress Michelle Obama when she visited Buckingham Palace –
His face is so very punchable. That’s what I got from this.
To be fair, Ford also said that he wouldn’t have dresses Hillary Clinton, had she won the election. His reasoning is that his clothes are just too expensive and it’s probably not right that someone who should relate to everyone should wear a $30,000+ dress.
Then again, Hillary Clinton couldn’t relate to regular people if she were in a muumuu and house slippers. It’s not necessarily the clothes, it’s the personality.
I dunno – I’m not terribly worked up over this. If a designer refuses to dress Melania Trump over politics, that’s their business and their loss. There are plenty of other designers in the world for whom it would be an honor to dress the First Lady, regardless of politics. And even if they all refuse – doesn’t Melania have her own fashion business? I’m fairly certain that she could dress herself. And if for some reason that’s not allowed (talk about “unrelatable” – who makes these rules?), Ivanka could do it.
Our new FLOTUS is going to be just fine.
