GOP lawmakers revealed a replacement to Obamacare on Monday, promising a more responsible and affordable healthcare option for Americans.
The bill will cut funding to Planned Parenthood and put an end to abortion funding, expand Medicaid by 2020, and provide additional savings to families that are struggling to secure affordable healthcare.
Conservative Tribune reports:
If there is any money left over from the tax credit, it would roll over into a Health Savings Account. The “credits are additive for a family and capped at $14,000.”
The bills would also eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, giving funds instead to a Community Health Center Fund to cover women’s health needs.
The bill ends Medicaid expansion by 2020, instead giving individual states more leeway to craft their own programs. The legislation calls for a $100 billion Patient and State Stability Fund, which would be disbursed over a decade to help with the transition.
The so-called “Cadillac tax” on employer plans that exceed $10,200 in premiums for individuals and $27,500 for families would be reinstated after 10 years. While not the most conservative item in the bills, it was necessary to pass the bill under budget reconciliation rules (which means the Democrats would not be able to filibuster).
House Speaker Paul Ryan said the bills would “give every American access to quality, affordable health insurance.”
“Working together, this unified Republican government will deliver relief and peace of mind to the millions of Americans suffering under Obamacare,” Ryan said. “This will proceed through a transparent process of regular order in full view of the public.”
“We’ve been listening very carefully to our Republican members for months now to make sure we get it right,” House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Kevin Brady, a Texas Republican, said Monday. “I am confident we are going to pass this.”
Thank God we are about to replace Obamacare. What a disastrous policy that cost the American taxpayers way more than it needed to.
