A woman from Moscow, Russia, is lucky to be alive after she was forced to jump from the 8th floor of her apartment complex in order to escape a fire.
The incident took place on Sunday after the woman became trapped in her apartment as the fire raged on. Eventually she was trapped at the window, as black smoke pooled out, the fire became too intense for her and she fell 60 feet.
You won’t believe what happened next:
She somehow managed to survive as something broke her fall near the bottom.
The woman is now recovering in a hospital, but has since slipped into a coma.
Conservative Tribune reports:
Amazingly for a fire of such apparent size, only nine people had to be evacuated from the burning building. Additionally, a child living elsewhere in the building required medical attention.
Russia leads the world in deaths from structure fires, according to the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services. Over 11,000 Russians died in fires in 2014 (this includes vehicle fires). Greater population density, with the majority of city-dwellers living in high-rise apartments, may make structure fires more deadly than those in single-family detached dwellings.
Hopefully she can make a full recovery.
