A senior citizen from Atlanta, Georgia, was beaten until she was black and blue on Sunday morning.
Why did this happen? The 75-year-old woman got between the attacker and her bread.
The attacker has been identified as Alexis Venderburg, while the elderly woman has asked to remain anonymous.
“I thought she was going to go around,” said the elderly woman, who asked 11Alive not to use her name. “She looked at me and she said, ‘I want to get some bread, white [expletive]. I said, ‘Well excuse me.’”
As the woman wheeled her scooter away from Vanderburg, she murmured, “No you move out of the way,” and called Venderburg a profane name.
“I’m not going to tell no lie,” the victim said. “As I went around her, I said, ‘You’re the [expletive].”
Venderburg heard what she said and proceeded to attack the elderly woman.
“There wasn’t anybody in the aisle, and the next thing you know she was jumping on me,” the grandmother said.
According to the police report, Venderburg punched the woman multiple times in the face, leaving her with a bloody nose and several bruises.
“She kept socking me in my glasses, and then hitting me in my mouth. I started hollering, ‘Help, help.’”
Even worse, no one jumped in to help the elderly woman. The grandmother eventually started screaming for help and finally someone came.
The Walmart where this all took place released its own statement regarding the incident: “We’re disappointed a customer would treat another customer with such disrespect. We’ll work with law enforcement as they search for the person responsible and want to wish the victim a speedy recovery.”
