Sewanou Bisile Yoro, 34, was arrested and charged on Monday with the abduction, rape, and sexual assault of a female passenger who he had picked up in Virginia Beach on Saturday night through the Uber app.
Yoro is currently being held without bail in the city jail. He has no prior convictions or history involving sexual assault.
For three years, Yoro has worked part-time for Uber while living in Norfolk earning about $350 a week The Virginian-Pilot reports.

At his arraignment Tuesday, Yoro was appointed a public defender and a preliminary hearing was set for May 4, the Pilot reported.

An Uber spokeswoman told InsideEdition.com that Yoro was banned from working for the company.
“The type of conduct that has been described has no place on the app or anywhere,” the spokeswoman said.
“We will work with police to provide them with any information that would be useful in their investigation,” she said.
