Anti-Trump organizers are moving closer to realizing their dream of making a California city declared as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants when the city council votes Monday on the resolution that the group introduced.
The city council of San Carlos will meet Monday night to vote on the resolution to declare the city a “Welcoming City.”
A group of more than 100 residents called “#Resist:SanCarlos” is behind the resolution. They are also known to be anti-Trump and they meet regularly to discuss how to resist the current administration.
The Daily Caller reports:
The resolution would bar local authorities in San Carlos from cooperating with federal agents to enforce immigration laws, officially designating the city as a safe zone from deportation for illegal immigrants who commit crimes. Such cities are widely known as “sanctuary cities,” although the proposal, interestingly, makes no mention of the politically loaded term.
To avoid penalties from the Trump administration, the resolution did not make any mention of a sanctuary city. The president has threatened to cut federal funding to sanctuary cities.
Another California city, San Mateo, recently voted down a similar resolution for fear of losing federal dollars.
