A Muslim man was deported to Ethiopia after serving a 10-year sentence in a U.S. prison for mutilating his daughter’s genitals.
Khalid Adem, a 41-year-old Ethiopian man, was convicted in 2006 for aggravated battery and cruelty to children. After American taxpayers paid every dime of his decade-long time in prison, he was finally removed from the United States on Monday.
He was the first to be criminally convicted in the U.S. for female genital mutilation and his case drew national attention. The Gwinnett County, Ga. man was nabbed for using scissors to mutilate the genitals of his then two-year-old daughter.
