The city of Seattle on Wednesday sued the federal government over President Donald Trump’s executive order that withholds federal funds from “sanctuary cities,” and to have the order declared as unconstitutional.
As part of his campaign pledge for tougher immigration enforcement, Trump directed the federal government through his Jan. 25 executive order to strip funding for so-called “sanctuary cities.”
On Monday, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatened to cut off Justice Department grants from cities and other local governments found to protect illegal immigrants from deportation efforts by federal agents.
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray said federal authorities cannot force his own local police officials to participate in federal immigration activities.
Officials of the Trump administration insist that the immigration crackdown is specifically focused on illegal immigrants convicted of severe crimes.
The Gateway Pundit reports:
The Trump administration is simply enforcing existing federal immigration laws. The ‘sanctuary cities’ are unconstitutional and everyone participating in harboring illegal aliens should be prosecuted.
How many of our citizens have to be raped and murdered until these lunatic liberals see how dangerous ‘sanctuary cities’ really are?
