Jose Emiliano Aguilar, son of Grammy Award-winning mariachi Pepe Aguilar, was arrested two weeks ago after agents discovered he tried to smuggle four Chinese nationals by cramming them into the trunk of his car.
Aguilar, 24, was caught at the San Ysidro border crossing on March 14 when he tried to smuggle the undocumented Chinese nationals from Mexico into San Diego. Agents at the border were alerted when a K-9 unit detected the human cargo.
100% Fed Up reports:
According to docs … Jose unlocked the trunk and agents found 2 men and 2 women. Each had agreed to pay between $3k and $60k if they’d successfully made it into the country.
Jose has retained powerhouse attorney Jeremy Warren, who tells us … “The Aguilars are a strong, tight-knit family. Nothing about this situation will change that.”
Court documents say that Aguilar, who is an American citizen, was released on a $15,000 bond. He’s facing federal smuggling charges and scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at a district court in San Diego on April 13.
In a statement, Aguilar’s attorney said that his client’s case has nothing to do with his famous father, who has Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
