A student attending Northern Arizona University lost marks on an English paper when her professor didn’t like that she used the word “mankind” instead of a gender-neutral language, according to 100% Fed Up.
Cailin Jeffers, an English major, said that her English professor Dr. Anne Scott emailed her saying that she took one point out of a possible 50 for her failure to use a gender-neutral term. The professor told Jeffers that she had problems with her choice of words by using “mankind” as a synonym for “humanity.”
Scott explained that she would be negligent as a professor if she didn’t raise the issue of gender-neutral language. The English professor added that the “words we use matter very much, or else teachers would not be making an issue of this at all.”
This prompted Jeffers to appear on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” where she said that Scott claimed the word “mankind” is sexist and oppressive to women.
