President Donald Trump ordered a devastating cruise missile strike against a Syrian military field Thursday, in response to alleged chemical weapons attack by the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, The Daily Caller reports.
Trump ordered the strike in retaliation for the chemical weapons attack Tuesday that resulted to 86 dead, including 27 children. The military response comes a day after Trump declared that the Assad regime’s chemical attack on its own people had “crossed many, many lines.”
The move is also the first conventional assault on another country under the Trump administration.
From his resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said that Assad “launched a horrible chemical attack on innocent civilians using a deadly nerve agent.” “No child of God should ever suffer such horror,” he adds.
Officials said that 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched at a Syrian airbase at al-Shayrat, located near Homs, targeting ammunition areas, control tower, base’s airstrips and hangars.
