The Secret Service suspended an agent on Vice President Mike Pence’s detail for meeting a prostitute at a hotel in Maryland. The agent was arrested after police spotted him going out of the hotel, according to The Daily Caller.
The agent whose name has not been released had been off-duty at the time of the incident, which occurred last week, and did not identify himself as a Secret Service agent, according to sources.
He was charged by police with solicitation then self-reported his arrest to the Secret Service. The incident led the agency to put him on administrative leave while they launch an investigation into “allegations of criminal activity.”
His arrest was not part of a planned operation but came when the hotel manager called the police after growing suspicious of what was happening in the room.
The Secret Service spokesperson said the employee had surrendered his weapon and was stripped of his access passes and security clearance. “We are exploring the full range of disciplinary actions,” the spokesperson said.
