A senior U.S. official said on Monday that Russia knew in advance of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s chemical weapons attack last week that killed dozens of civilians including children, according to 100% Fed Up.
This development comes as Russian president Vladimir Putin announced that he would not meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson when he gets to Moscow this week.
The official confirmed reports that a drone operated by Russians flew over a hospital where the victims of the chemical attack were taken. Just hours later, a Russian-made fighter jet bombed the hospital in a possible attempt to cover up the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons.
The presence of the Russian drone in the area may have been a coincidence and it still wasn’t clear whether a Syrian or Russian pilot was flying the jet that bombed the building, the official said.
Another U.S. official cautioned that no final conclusion has been made of Russian involvement in the use chemical weapons.
