President Donald Trump appears to have gotten what he wanted from NATO when he called the group a “great alliance” and suggested changes were made because of his demands, according to the Gateway Pundit.
As a candidate, Trump demanded member nations to pay their fair share of the costs to maintain the military alliance or else he will “dissolve” it.
President Trump has previously called the alliance “obsolete” and he was not at all happy that the United States is spending huge amount in NATO and while other members spend proportionately less.
But during a news conference at the White House Wednesday with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Trump was pleased to announce that he got other countries to increase their spending. Trump said, “I said it was obsolete. It’s no longer obsolete.”
Stoltenberg said that allied spending was also up by $10 billion since Trump assumed office. Fearing that Trump will make good of his threat, he offered his assurance saying “We know that we all need to contribute our fair share.”
