Muslim leaders in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis are outraged of a man who has been patrolling a predominantly Somali neighborhood to impose what he calls “the civil part of the sharia law,” 100% Fed Up reports.
Abdullah Rashid, a 22-year-old Georgia native who moved to Cedar-Riverside in 2016, has been telling people in the neighborhood not to use drugs, to drink, or interact with the opposite sex, based on his interpretation of Sharia law.
He also reminds Muslim women if he thinks they are dressed inappropriately, and tells them to wear a jilbab. He says he’s also urging other to join his group, General Presidency of the Religious Affairs and Welfare of the Ummah, in patrolling and enforcing the Islamic civil code.
Local Muslim leaders have notified Minneapolis police of his group’s activities, and they already banned him from a Cedar-Riverside property. They believe his group is recruiting vulnerable young Muslims in for radicalization and terrorism.
In a recent interview, Rashid said he plans to turn Cedar-Riverside into a “sharia-controlled zone” and asks non-Muslims to respect it.
