NBC Sports’ lead baseball writer Craig Calcaterra took to Twitter on Easter Sunday to rant about how the image of the American flag is political and it needs to be kept “out of sports,” the Gateway Pundit reports.
The sports announcer tweeted out a picture of Suntrust Park in Atlanta with the American flag covering the field and shown on the jumbotrons above. He said in the tweet, “Will you keep politics out of sports, please. We like sports to be politics-free.”
He followed up with another tweet saying, “Maybe a flag, in and of itself isn’t always political. A two-acre flag with a military flyover is saying something very specific, however.”
As he responds to other people’s comments, he suggested that the U.S. flag is merely a fabric and people who wrap themselves with it want to achieve their political ends.
His tweets were widely ridiculed on social media and others questioned his patriotism. One person commented, “I think there was a time when love for country wasn’t considered political. And a lot of people would like to return to that time.”
