North Korea’s men and women have been given 15 sanctioned hairdos to choose from as illustrated guides have started to appear in hair salons in the capital city Pyongyang showing haircuts that leader Kim Jong-un approves, although none of the hairstyle choices for men match that of Jong-un’s, 100% Fed Up reports.
The illustrations showing the state-approved hairstyles were tweeted last week by Finnish journalist Mika Makelainen who visited North Korea during the “Day of Sun” celebrations in the capital.
Foreign journalists were allowed to visit the reclusive state to cover the military parade on the public holiday commemorating the 105th birth anniversary of the nation’s founder Kim II-sung.
Kim Jong-un’s signature swept-back style made him somewhat a hair icon. His voluminous style appears to give respect to his grandfather Kim Il-sung.
While men and women have 15 approved hairstyles, coloring one’s hair, however, is not allowed.
Although some social media users said the illustrations could be guides instead of mandatory styles, it can be recalled that two years ago Kim reportedly ordered men in his country to wear his hairstyle.
