Bill O’Reilly’s attorney released a statement Tuesday where the former Fox News host blamed “far-left” organizations for a smear campaign against him that led to his firing at the network, and promising to reveal evidence of his allegations, according to the Gateway Pundit.
This is the first time O’Reilly spoke about the subject since The New York Times reported earlier this month that O’Reilly and Fox had paid $13 million to settle harassment cases against the “The O’Reilly Factor” host.
“Bill O’Reilly has been subjected to a brutal campaign of character assassination that is unprecedented in post-McCarthyist America,” attorney Marc Kasowitz said in a separate statement.
Following the New York Times report, a number of advertisers, reportedly about 90 companies, pulled their spots from O’Reilly’s TV program.
O’Reilly had been off the air since last week while he was on vacation, but had been scheduled to return to air Monday.
On Wednesday, 21st Century Fox announced the network and O’Reilly have agreed that he will not be returning to Fox News.
