NBC News’ Chuck Todd on Thursday morning said that he never viewed former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly a true “conservative” during an interview in Hugh Hewitt’s nationally syndicated radio show, according to The Daily Caller.
Todd told the conservative radio host that he didn’t consider the host of the “O’Reilly Factor” as a traditional conservative and sees him more of an entertainer compared with his colleagues at Fox News.
When asked by Hewitt how he assessed O’Reilly’s conservatism, Todd said, “Look, I agree with you. He was not sort of a traditional conservative.”
He continued, “He was, to me, he gave voice, what he did, he was the tone setter. He was sort of that anti-political correctness.”
Todd also weighed in on the scandal that led to O’Reilly’s abrupt exit at the network. “Look, here’s my understanding of what happened. The board of directors at 21st Century Fox said this is just bad for business.”
“So you know, it really underscores this idea that this stuff happens when you create a culture of tolerance for it,” Todd said suggesting that tolerance of O’Reilly’s behavior led to further incidents of sexual harassment at Fox News.
