Federal agents arrested a Michigan doctor and his wife in connection with a female genital mutilation (FGM) investigation where surgeries were performed on girls as young as six among members of a Muslim sect.
Dr. Fakhruddin Attar and his wife, Farida, were arrested for conspiring to perform FGM on minors.
Neither Attar nor his wife allegedly performed the procedures themselves, but investigators said the couple helped Dr. Jumana Nagarwala carry out the procedures and coordinated appointments with the victims’ parents.
100% Fed Up reports:
Last week a grisly discovery was made when a Henry Ford Hospital emergency room doctor was arrested for the female mutilation of young girls 6-8 years old. Young girls who traveled with their families to Dr. Nagarwala for the barbaric “procedure” were told they were going to Detroit for a “special girls trip.”
Nagarwala allegedly performed the surgeries at the Burhani Medical Clinic in Livonia, which is owned and operated by Attar and his wife is the office manager.
Last week, police arrested Nagarwala, who is an emergency room clinic physician at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
The couple urged parents to deny the procedures had taken place following Nagarwala’s arrest, prosecutors say. They were arrested Friday morning and are slated to appear in court later in the afternoon.
