Barack Obama reportedly will earn $400,000, which is equivalent of his annual salary as president, for speaking for a prominent Wall Street firm later this year.
Fox Business Network reported Monday that the former president is confirmed to appear at Cantor Fitzgerald LP’s healthcare conference scheduled in September, citing senior people at the financial services firm.
Fox Business Network’s Charlie Gasparino said Obama “is going to be the keynote speaker for the lunch, and he’s going to receive a fee of $400,000.”
100% Fed Up reports:
Obama made Wall Street out to be the enemy during his presidency. He bashed them on one hand then supported them with the other…Speaking out of both sides of his mouth is a true talent Obama has. He counts on the people to forget and forgive his misdeeds…and they do. Who else could get away with so many lies? Remember when he called Wall Street every bad name in the book? Fat Cats?
The hefty fee puts Obama among highly paid former government officials, which include former Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke who makes between $200,000 and $400,000 and former Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner who charges $200,000 per appearance, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton was paid more than $200,000 by Goldman Sachs in each of her speaking engagements, which was later used against her during the campaign.
Obama has signed a contract for the speech but has the option to back out should there be any scheduling conflicts, Gasparino said.
