Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday put forward a radical new proposal calling for the use of money seized from the criminal prosecution of drug lords including drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to cover the cost of President Donald Trump’s border wall, the Gateway Pundit reports.
The radical new proposal by the Texas Republican Senator is called EL CHAPO bill, which stands for Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order.
American prosecutors are seeking to forfeit $14 billion of Guzman’s illicit profits and other assets.
He said the forfeited assets of El Chapo can offset the cost of building the wall and help President Trump achieve his border security objectives.
Cruz tweeted on Tuesday, “Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will help keep Americans safe.”
In January, Mexico extradited Guzman, who is now locked up in an American prison cell. He faces murder charges in relation to the death of a U.S. citizen and two relatives.
