A federal judge in San Francisco judge said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump can’t force “sanctuary cities” to cooperate with immigration officers by blocking his executive order withholding funds for cities that shield illegal immigrants, according to the Gateway Pundit.
It’s another blow to Trump’s efforts to increase security along the U.S. border and crack down on people living in the country illegally.
The White House has already lost several attempts to impose a temporary travel ban against citizens of six predominantly Muslim countries.
Trump’s Jan. 25 order instructed the attorney general and the Department of Homeland Security to ensure that sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with immigration authorities will not be eligible to receive federal grants.
In his ruling, Orrick sided with San Francisco and Santa Clara saying, “Federal funding that bears no meaningful relationship to immigration enforcement cannot be threatened.”
It is the same judge who helped raise at least $200,000 to Barack Obama’s campaign, and whose wife is a member of far-left groups on Facebook, the Gateway Pundit reports.
