A biography about former President Barack Obama claims that he considered being homosexual as a young man and talked about his relationship with an openly gay assistant professor while still in college.
The biography titled “Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama” will not be released until May 9, but it has already garnered attention because of the unexpected chapter about Obama experimenting with homosexuality.
Author David Garrow, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author for his biography work on Martin Luther King Jr., talked about Obama’s relationship with Lawrence Goldyn in the book.
Obama spent two years at Occidental College, where he had a close relationship with Goldyn, who Obama later described as a “terrific guy” with whom he developed a “friendship beyond the classroom.”
Years later, Goldyn would remember Obama as somebody who wasn’t afraid of being associated with him in terms of “talking socially” and learning from him during and after class.
Garrow also wrote in the book that Obama told his first girlfriend that he had considered gayness, but eventually decided that a same-sex relationship didn’t suit him.
The Daily Caller reports:
Garrow recently spoke about his book on The Jamie Weinstein Show. When asked about Obama experimenting with homosexuality, Garrow paused and replied, “I think anyone and everyone, no matter what their role in life deserves a certain basic degree of privacy, in that context.”
