Dane Powell, a resident of Florida, pleaded guilty Friday for his for role in the violence and destruction in Washington DC on Inauguration Day, 100% Fed Up reports.
Powell, a member of the radical “black bloc” protest group, pleaded guilty to charges of felony rioting and felony assault on a law enforcement officer. He faces between 12 and 36 months in prison on each of the two charges.
The 31-year-old resident of Tampa is among the first group of people charged for Inauguration Day rioting who appeared before a Superior Court Judge.
A total of 230 people were arrested in the aftermath of the riots on Jan. 20 when a mob of masked black bloc protesters moved across 16 blocks, throwing rocks and other objects at the police. Powell and many others were arrested the following day.
During the 30-minute mayhem, many businesses had their windows and other property damaged.
Powell’s arraignment came hours after a grand jury issued superseding indictment that brought additional felony counts against the arrested rioters.
