A viral tweet featuring Ivanka Trump’s billboard ad for Trump Tower had several liberal media personalities share the false post claiming that the president’s daughter is still promoting her family’s business interests despite joining her father in the White House as senior adviser.
Peter Brack, who describes himself as a social activist and venture capitalist, first tweeted the photo with a comment, “Assistant to POTUS models in an ad for POTUS’s new Tower in Manila. President of Philippines just got WH invite.”
Brack’s post was retweeted 25,000 times by Monday including MSNBC’s Joy Reid and progressive news site Raw Story.
Reid sarcastically tweeted, “Total coincidence I’m sure.”
Meanwhile, Raw Story wrote, “Ivanka Trump hawks family’s new development in Philippines as dad invites strongman to White House.”
The Daily Caller reports:
Brack was referring to the news that Trump had invited Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte to visit the White House. The invitation proved controversial, largely because of Duterte’s admission that he has murdered several people.
Trump’s critics saw the billboard as evidence that the Republican has his family’s business in mind when making decisions involving diplomatic matters. Ivanka Trump currently serves in an unpaid advisory role to her father. She has reportedly cut ties with the Trump Organization, her family’s real estate company.
However, a spokesperson for the Trump Organization said the photo showing the billboard is five years old and was taken down years ago.
“The developer of Trump Tower in Manila has confirmed that this particular billboard was removed several years ago,” according to Amanda Miller, a Trump Organization spokeswoman.
