Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin sent classified emails by her boss to her disgraced husband, former Congressman Anthony Weiner, FBI Director James Comey testified to lawmakers.
Comey defended his decision to inform Congress about reopening his agency’s probe into Clinton’s private email server during Wednesday’s hearing.
He also told the Senate judiciary committee new details about how Clinton’s emails ended up on Weiner’s computer.
The Daily Caller reports:
Comey reopened the FBI investigation into Clinton’s email practices in October after agents discovered that a laptop owned by Weiner and Abedin contained Clinton’s emails. The laptop was seized as part of a separate investigation into Weiner’s contacts with a 15-year-old girl.
Weiner, a New York Democrat, was married to Abedin and was being investigated separately because of a sexting scandal with a minor.
Comey testified, “His then-spouse Huma Abedin appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to him for him to print out for her so she could deliver them to the secretary of state.” However, he thinks Weiner didn’t read the emails.
Comey also confirmed the FBI investigated Abedin, but thinks she didn’t have a sense that “what she was doing was in violation of the law,” and investigators concluded she did nothing criminally wrong.
