President Donald Trump tweeted late Tuesday night criticizing FBI Director James Comey for giving former rival Hillary Clinton a “free pass” in the investigation into her private email server.
The president thinks Comey helped former Secretary of State Clinton by not recommending that she should not be charged for mishandling classified information for using a private email server during her time at the agency.
Trump said in a tweet, “FBI Director Comey was the best thing that ever happened to Hillary Clinton in that he gave her a free pass for many bad deeds!”
His comments appear to be a response to a Clinton interview hours earlier during an international women’s event in New York where she had reflected on her election loss.
Clinton blamed her loss on Comey and the publication of DNC emails by WikiLeaks.
She told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, “If the election had been on Oct. 27, I would be your president,” referencing the day before the FBI Director sent a letter to Congress informing them that his agency is reopening investigation into Clinton’s mishandling of classified material.
The Daily Caller reports:
Comey, who was appointed to his 10-year term by President Obama in 2013, will be in the spotlight on Wednesday during his Senate Judiciary Committee testimony. In March, during his last appearance on Capitol Hill, Comey acknowledged for the first time that the FBI is investigating whether several Trump advisers cooperated with the Russian government during the campaign.
Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the committee’s chairman, has already indicated that he plans to press Comey over the FBI’s arrangement with the former British spy who authored a dossier of research about Trump.
