David Axelrod, former adviser to Barack Obama, ripped Hillary Clinton on Wednesday for continuing to blame FBI Director James B. Comey and Russian hackers for losing the 2016 presidential election.
Speaking to CNN, Axelrod pushed back on the former Secretary of State for placing blame on Comey’s re-opening of the investigation into her emails on the weekend before the election.
Axelrod said, “Jim Comey didn’t tell her not to campaign in Wisconsin after the convention, Jim Comey didn’t say, ‘don’t put any resources into Michigan until the final week.”
He added that her campaign suffered because the former Democratic presidential nominee “never fully was willing to take responsibility for her mistakes.”
The Daily Caller reports:
CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota disagreed with this assessment, playing a clip of Clinton saying she took “personal responsibility” for her loss but the ultimate reason she lost was the Comey letter.
“I think she would have been well served to just stop before she got to ‘but the reason I lost…’” Axelrod responded. “It takes a lot of work to lose to Donald Trump.”
Axelrod was responding to a Clinton interview at an event in Manhattan Tuesday where she said she takes “absolute personal responsibility” for the upset defeat to Donald Trump.
However, she also said she was “on her way to winning” before Comey’s notice to Congress and Russia’s hacking.
