A court in Germany ruled that a comedian was just being satirical when he called far-right politician Alice Weidel a “Nazi slut,” the Gateway Pundit reports.
The Hamburg district court said that Germany’s freedom of expression covers satire, especially when it targets public figures, who are expected to “put up with exaggerated criticism.”
Alice Weidel, a leader of the anti-immigration party Alternative for Germany (AfD), filed a complaint contending that the comments made by comedian Christian Ehring in his Extra 3 program on April 27 were defamatory.
Ehring, commenting on a statement that Weidel recently made against political correctness, said on the satirical show, “OK, out with political correctness, let’s all be incorrect — there the Nazi slut is right.”
A spokesperson for the AfD said that the party believes “such aggressive defamations” could put Weidel in danger and that she will appeal the court’s decision.
The ruling comes less than a week after Weidel accused German Chancellor Angela Merkel of being “insane.”
