Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, has filed for divorce from her estranged husband Anthony Weiner hours after the former New York congressman pleaded guilty on a federal sex charge Friday, the Gateway Pundit reports.
The papers that Abedin originally filed was for an uncontested divorce, but later changed it to indicate “contested,” which suggests that Weiner decided not to sign at the last minute.
Legal experts now predict that the two will likely engage in a long and costly court battle.
Because of Weiner’s guilty plea in federal court, Abedin may have to pay at least Weiner’s legal bills until an agreement can be reached.
Abedin appears to hold multiple jobs, while Weiner has struggled to keep a job in the six years since his first sexting scandal broke out.
Weiner’s plea deal will see him get imprisoned between 21 and 27 months and will have to register as a sex offender upon release.
