Twitter users slam a freelance reporter for CBS and Yahoo for tweeting an insensitive “joke” in the aftermath of the explosion in Manchester Arena during an Ariana Grande concert that killed 19 people and injured at least 50, the Gateway Pundit reports.
David Leavitt tweeted after news of the incident broke: “MULTIPLE CONFIRMED FATALITIES at Manchester Arena. The last time I listened to Ariana Grande I almost died too.”
He immediately received heavy criticism for his tweet, with many demanding him to delete his account.
Instead of deleting his original tweet, a defiant Leavitt even doubled down.
“Honestly, for over a year I thought an Ariana Grande was something you ordered at Starbucks,” he tweeted.
But two hours after posting his first tweet, Leavitt finally decided to apologize, although the tweet is still up on his account.
“Sorry 4 offending. Didn’t realize the magnitude of the tragedy. I always make stupid jokes about whatevers trending. Condolences 2 families,” he said.
