President Donald Trump left the G7 summit on Saturday at odds with the rest of the wealthy western economies on climate change, amid concerns that Washington will pull out of the Paris agreement to tackle climate change.
A clearly frustrated Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany said the discussions had been “very unsatisfying” and indicated that the U.S. may not stick with the Paris accord.
Trump was isolated on the issue during the summit and negotiators worked until early Friday morning to try to convince the Americans to stay on board.
However, it became clear that talks were heading nowhere when Trump would not change his position on keeping U.S. commitments in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the landmark deal signed by nearly all countries in 2015.
Trump, who has previously said that global warming is a hoax, took to Twitter after the summit: “I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!”
Trump’s chief economic adviser Gary Cohn described the negotiations as “very frank” but said the president had “enjoyed” discussing the matter with fellow leaders.
100% Fed Up reports:
There was a heavy push and big-time lobbying from G7 leaders but President Trump said no to endorsing the Paris Climate Agreement. We hope this means another nail in the coffin of Obama’s legacy. Obama set America up to pay a fortune to other nations in this MAJOR boondoggle of a redistribution of wealth to other nations. American taxpayers DO NOT want to pay for this!
