Sen. Richard Burr shut down Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris from speaking during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing for continuously cutting off Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Burr, a Republican senator from North Carolina and the chair of Senate intel committee, admonished the senator from California for pressing Rosenstein over whether he would sign a letter giving Special Counsel Robert Mueller full independence in his investigation into Russia’s interference of the elections in 2016.
As Harris demanded a yes or no answer from Rosenstein, Republican Sen. John McCain interjected saying the witness should be allowed to answer the question in full.
Although Rosenstein managed to respond to the female senator’s question when he said, “He has the full independence as authorized by those regulations,” Harris stopped him once again.
This time Burr cut her off and was no longer bent in allowing Harris to continue her interruptions of the witness, giving a relieved Rosenstein the opportunity to finish his response.
“The senator will suspend. The chair is going to exercise his right to allow the witness to answer the question,” Burr said. A visibly annoyed Harris eye rolled upon hearing the chair’s ruling.
