President Donald Trump publicly confirmed on Twitter Friday that he is under investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller over his firing of James Comey as FBI director, The Daily Caller reports.
Trump tweeted: “I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!”
While Trump did any name, he appears to take a swipe at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, a Trump nominee who is overseeing the current Russia investigation.
But another source close to Trump’s legal team said Trump’s tweet did mean he has confirming he was under investigation, but he was simply referring to recently published article in the Washington Post.
It was Rosenstein’s memo that the White House initially cited as the president’s reason to remove Comey from his post in May.
Rosenstein would later name Mueller as special counsel because Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier recused himself from the Russia probe.
