A Democratic Party official Nebraska was ousted Thursday after an audio recording surfaced saying he wished House Majority Whip Steve Scalise had died in the in the Alexandria, Virginia shooting last week.
Montag was recorded saying, “This motherf—r, his whole job is to get people, convince Republicans to f—ing kick people off f—ing health care. I hate this motherf—r.”
“I wish he was f—ing dead,” he continued.
The audio recording, which was uploaded on YouTube, was confirmed by Nebraska Democratic Chairwoman Jane Kleeb to have the voice that belonged to Montag.
Kleen said, “We obviously condemn any kind of violence whether it’s comments on Facebook or comments in a meeting.”
In an interview with Omaha World-Herald, Montag insists his words were taken out of context.
His removal comes just after one week Nebraska Democratic Black Caucus Chairwoman Chelsey Gentry-Tipton was asked to step down over what she wrote on her Facebook account saying the reaction by Republicans during the Alexandria attack was “so funny.”
