A multi-million dollar libel suit against CNN prompted the news organization to retract a story that suggested there was a link between a Trump ally and Russia that turned out to be inaccurate, the Gateway Pundit reports.
Sources say that Anthony Scaramucci threatened to file a $100 million case against the network after reading a CNN report published on June 22 that claimed he met with members of a Russian investment fund, which is sanctioned by the U.S. because of its ties to the Russian government, days before the inauguration.
A day later, CNN retracted the article, explaining that the story did not meet editorial standards and practices.
Scaramucci received a rare public apology from the cable network, but still went on to hire a top-notch lawyer based in Manhattan to put more pressure on CNN.
The New York Post reported that Scaramucci’s lawyer sought $100 million in damages and demanded the dismissal of three senior journalists who were involved in the creation of the story.
On Tuesday, Scaramucci was appointed the Chief Strategy Officer of the Export-Import bank, a position that will take him to Washington.
