President Donald Trump spent the Independence Day holiday Tuesday with military families and his staff at the White House for a picnic and fireworks show, a tradition that previous administrations have observed.
The First Couple first joined military families in a picnic on the South Lawn before viewing a fireworks display from the Truman Balcony, the White House said.
With Melania at his side, the president told service members, “There could be no greater privilege than serving as your commander-in-chief.”
“I pledge my unwavering support for you, for your families and your missions,” Trump added.
President Trump has already made his first Fourth of July speech as president on Saturday during the Celebrate Freedom Rally at the Kennedy Center.
In that speech, he blasted the media for their unfair coverage and lauded his administration’s efforts to help veterans.
