Donald Trump donated his first-ever paycheck since assuming office as president to a Maryland-based national park called the Antietam National Battlefield.
The park is meant to preserve the ground that was the site of the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War, the White House said Wednesday.
The president donated his entire salary of $78,333, which is how much he made for the first three months of his term.
The amount was matched by an unnamed donor who donated $22,000, bringing the total donation to $100,000, according to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
The donated money will be used to restore a historically significant house on the battlefield and toi improve the fencing.
“The president’s donation will allow generations of Americans to learn about our history and heritage on this sacred site,” Zinke said.
Trump had promised ever since during the campaign that he will forgo his salary when he becomes president, and would donate it to the federal government instead.
