Detroit musician Kid Rock said Wednesday that he has launched a campaign website for a run at a U.S. Senate seat in 2018, becoming the latest celebrity to try politics, 100% Fed Up reports.
The rocker, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, has previously been considered as a possible GOP challenger to take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
He is featured on a website called “Kid Rock for Senate” (http://kidrockforsenate.com) that has a tagline “Are you scared?”
On Wednesday, Kid Ritchie wrote on Twitter: “I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real… The answer is an absolute YES.”
The 46-year-old Michigan native tweeted later: “I will have a major announcement in the near future.”
Ritchie performed at last year’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland and one of the few celebrities who have publicly expressed support for President Donald Trump.
In April, Ritchie joined musician Ted Nugent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to visit President Trump in the White House’s Oval Office.
