New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, one of the most prominent critics of President Donald Trump, has seen his approval rating decline since becoming the leader of the Democrats in the Senate in January, according to a new poll released on Thursday.
A Siena College poll found that Schumer has a 37 percent unfavorable rating among New Yorkers, marking his highest unapproval rating ever.
The top Senate Democrat’s highest ever favorability rating was in 2005 when he received 70 percent.
His favorability rating stood at 67 percent in December 2016 but that figure has dropped consistently since. In May this year, his favorability rating ranged between 57 and 33 percent.
Among Democrats, he is viewed favorably by 70 percent of the participants, which is down from 77 percent in May, according to Thursday’s poll.
Two-thirds of Republicans has an unfavorable view of Schumer, while 44 percent of independents don’t find him favorably.
