President Donald Trump will name Republican donor Anthony Scaramucci to become the new White House director of communications, according to news website Axios, The Daily Caller reports.
The selection came as a surprise even to Trump’s chief of staff Reince Preibus, who was not told of the decision in advance, Axios reports citing two people with knowledge of the matter.
Trump will select the financier to the position vacated by Mike Dubke.
The communications director post has been unfilled since late May when Dubke submitted his resignation after only three months on the job.
Scaramucci, known for hosting the annual SkyBridge Alternatives (SALT) Conference, has sold his stake in SkyBridge Capital earlier this year.
He was also previously rumored to become ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) but did not get that post. Currently, he serves as a senior Vice President at the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
