The University of California, Berkeley will be expanding the coverage of its student health insurance plan for transgender students that will include “fertility preservation” and “laser hair removal,” the Gateway Pundit reports.
Both services will be included in the plans on August 1, in addition to the existing services for transgender students already enjoy, according to The Daily Californian.
Other services that transgender students already have access to include “hormone therapy,” “breast augmentation,” “female to male top surgery,” “gender confirmation surgery” and even more.
In an interview with Campus Reform, Kim LaPean, communications manager at University Health Services Tang Center, said “Our Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee (SHIAC) had discussed adding these benefits for transgender patients two years ago.”
Juniperangelica Cordova, a student senator, told The Daily Caller in an interview that she praised the university for doing “a good job” of accommodating transgender students like herself.
Under the university’s health insurance plan, transgender students can pay as little as 10 percent of the cost of most of the services offered.
