Corey Stewart, the former chairman for President Donald Trump’s campaign in the state of Virginia, is running for the senate seat of Sen. Time Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential candidate, The Daily Caller reports.
The decision comes just a month after Stewart almost became the GOP nominee in Virginia’s race for governor.
Last month, Stewart narrowly lost the Virginia state Republican gubernatorial primary to Ed Gillespie by a little more than one percent.
He gained a lot of attention in that race when he ran a campaign where he supported Confederate monuments and tough enforcement of immigration laws.
In his race against Kaine next year, Stewart plans to run the same campaign that promotes an anti-establishment message.
Stewart told The Daily Caller, “I’m going to run a vicious and ruthless campaign against Tim Kaine.”
The former Trump campaign operative thinks Kaine is an out-of-touch liberal who doesn’t care about the issues that the people of Virginia care about. “The guy is the loony left,” Stewart said of the incumbent senator.
