President Donald Trump took another shot at Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday by describing his as “beleaguered” in his latest tweet about the Russia investigation.
The president wrote: “After 1 year of investigation with Zero evidence being found, Chuck Schumer just stated that ‘Democrats should blame ourselves, not Russia.’”
“So why aren’t the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered A.G., looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes & Russia relations?,” Trump added.
Trump posted the tweet shortly after senior White House adviser and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, publicly released his prepared statement for a Senate Intelligence Committee testimony on Monday.
In his statement, Kushner claims he did not collude with the Russian officials to help his father-in-law defeat Hillary Clinton.
Last week, President Trump also slammed Sessions in an interview with The New York Times saying he would not have nominated him as attorney general had he known the Alabama senator would recuse himself from the Russia probe.
The Daily Caller reports:
As for Trump’s “beleaguered” jab, that could be a reference to a Washington Post report published on Friday raising questions about Sessions’ meeting in September with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
According to The Post, Kislyak said in intercepted phone conversations that he and Sessions discussed the presidential campaign and sanctions during that meeting. Sessions has previously denied that those topics were discussed in the meeting, which was held in Sessions’ Senate office. The Post did note that Kislyak could have embellished his conversation with Sessions.
